Industry Placement Strategic Group Priorities to support “On-the-job Learning” include: • Develop a calendar to enable education and training to aim for more even work placement timing, ensuring that all students are aware that they will need to: Work out of traditional education hours, be available to work outside of conventional block arrangements that may be during school and university holiday periods • Education and Training providers to provide mentoring support for the student while they are on placement (including school holidays) • Educate Education and Training providers on what is required for work placements to meet the expected outcomes of specific training packages • Explore new paradigms and create innovative strategies, including the use of technology to provide pre-placement information for Education and Training providers and students; youth mentoring youth (eg: a 3rd year Uni student mentors a high school student) • Create resources and guidelines for education and training providers to ensure that the placement meets the needs of student learning, patient requirements and industry capability • Research and implement mentoring models that support placements, recruitment and retention • Advise on entry requirements for students to undertake a placement (eg: confidentiality, WHS, hygiene etc), Strategic Steering Committee Vision Statement: Young people from school, and those outside of the school system, make informed choices and have access to opportunities to develop skills and knowledge for a career in health. Three Established Partnerships for Raising Awareness and Aspirations Health Heroes Purpose: An interactive information session for students in Year 10 designed to introduce them to the vast and varied career opportunities that exist in the health sector. This showcase of healthcare professionals, education and training providers will visit two schools each year.
