This Concept Map, created with IHMC CmapTools, has information related to: Start Here, COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Course Description Foundations and Impacts of computing and digital technologies, including history, applications, and societal impacts. (UG) Prerequisite: Junior status and either two science courses or one math course and one science course. General Education Category: GenEd II.A.2 Science, Technology, and Modern Society., COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Course Methods The students overall will have a chance to construct new knowledge from the information in the course readings and videos. Rather than expecting the instructor to deliver this knowledge in class lectures, the students will actively acquire, organize, evaluate, apply and extend this knowledge throughout the course. This course will use CmapTools and CmapServer for many of the course activities including constructing concept-maps, turning in essays and participating in online-discussions. Students should plan to read a lot, keep up with current events, and to participate in class meetings and online discussions. These sections of COSC 311 are designated as Web Supported-1. This requires students to spend approximately 30 - 50% of the course time using resources and activities made available from the course web site. As a result there may be a corresponding reduction in face-to-face time, but classes will continue to meet on a schedule defined by the instructor, COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Detailed Iniformation COSC311 Web Portal, Jeff Schmitt Office YR 475 email: schmitt@towson.edu Teaching assistant Fengli Fu Email: ffu1@towson.edu, COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Detailed Iniformation Schedule, COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Detailed Iniformation Policies, COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Detailed Iniformation Grading, COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Instructor Jeff Schmitt Office YR 475 email: schmitt@towson.edu, COSC 311 Digital Technologies in Society (3) Textbook Annual Editions: Computers in Society (04/05) De Palma (editor), Dushkin/McGraw-Hill 2004
