This is the
goal of a TQM
program.
I led such a
program for 36
years in
Chicago.
In a TQM Program…
Everyone is engaged in “learning” in order to
constantly improve the impact a program has on
its participants…youth, volunteers, staff,
community.

TOTAL QUALITY MENTORING –
The potential of out-of-school time Tutor/Mentor Programs
For good programs to exist and grow, the community (business, hospitals,
volunteers, etc.) must provide on-going support.

The TQM chart can be drawn in many ways. Using network analysis
programs ought to be able to show the diversity of volunteers, who come
from different industries, colleges, faith groups, etc.
As volunteers connect
with youth in an
organized
tutor/mentor program,
they learn about
poverty, and the
needs of the
organization. They
take that knowledge
back to their
workplace, faith
group, family, etc. and
recruit others to help.
